Information you need to do building and remodeling projects right the first time and protect the safety and value of your home.
What is this label I found on my water heater or circuit box?

If the label you found on your appliance or circuit box looks like this -

A licensed contractor has done work on your home. If you have trouble reading the work description or you want to contact the contractor, you can go to the Minor Label Program Web site and look up the label.

Minor labels are inexpensive permits for minor electrical and plumbing, residential and commercial installations. For example, you can use minor label permits to put in light switches or install residential water heaters. Licensed contractors buy a "lot" of 10 labels, of which 10 percent are inspected. Contractors may use the labels for installations anywhere in the state.

The minor labels were updated in December 2007. You may have a label that looks a little different than the one shown above. You should still be able to find the label number and you can enter it into the minor label database, found at www.MinorLabels.info.
